Since its establishment in 1917, Quantico has been home to many of the nation’s most innovative, intelligent and patriotic men and women. It is here, at the Crossroads of the Marine Corps, that vital concepts, training, and equipment of the future are developed. Some of the most important techniques in warfighting were born here, including expeditionary warfare, for which the Marine Corps is renowned.
Spaniards visited Quantico40 years before Jamestown was settled and Captain John Smith explored the Potomac banks in 1608. Tobacco was the main product of early Scottish settlers in the Quantico area, which was the home of many Revolutionary War heroes. American, British and French armies used nearby roads to move from one battlefield to another.
Marine Corps Base Quantico is home to the Marine Corps Combat Development Command and numerous tenant organizations. The base staff providesinfrastructure, operational, and community services support to these organizations and to the military members, families, and civilians who live and work on base. The base is also a key player in support ofoverall Marine Corps objectives and programs, and plays host to scores of training events, conferences, symposia, and other special events.
The Marine Mart on Mainside, in Building 3048 off Barnett Avenue, offers quick-stop shopping and carries items typically found in commercial convenience stores: bread, milk, health and comfort items, as well as soda, beer and wine. Some military items, and breakfast and lunch selections are also available.
The Clubs At Quantico is a $7.5 million state-of-the-art facility located in Building 3017, next to the Quantico Pool. The tri-modular construction houses the Officers’, Staff Noncommissioned Officers’ and Enlisted Clubs, as well as the Marathon Restaurant and Officers’ Dining Room. The facility offers complete dining services and entertainment programs in each lounge and banquet facilities.
Headquartered in the Gen. Raymond G. Davis Center at 3300 Russell Road, the Marine Corps Combat Development Command was created on Nov. 10, 1987 by the 28th commandant of the Marine Corps, Gen. P.X. Kelly. Thecommand is comprised of the Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory, the Capabilities Development Directorate (formerly the Expeditionary Force Development Center), Training and Education Command, and Marine CorpsBase Quantico.
MCI-NCR provides essential support and coordination of the Marine Corps antiterrorism⁄force protection, critical infrastructure protection, and chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosion programs at each Marine Corps installation in the NCR. MCI-NCR implements policies, develops strategies, and produces regional plans for its bases in order to support HQMC and enhance the expeditionary training capabilities, support and readiness of other designated supported commanders and tenant organizations.
he Manpower and Reserve Affairs department is the largest department in Headquarters Marine Corps. Located in the James Wesley Marsh Center, Building 3280. M&RA is responsible for taking care of Marines and their families. Within the M&RA are the Manpower Management Information Systems Division, the Manpower Management Division, the Manpower Plans and Policy Division, the Personal and Family Readiness Division, and the Reserve Affairs Division.
