Time Out is not just for kids

Who do you know that would benefit from a time out; time out from the everyday hustle of a routine day? I bet you could name at least 10 people including yourself.

We all tend to put too much on our daily plate of things to do, run and run from place to place, interacting all day with people, our computers and telephones. Wouldn’t it be nice to do the ‘‘Peter Pan” thing and toss the phones, and the computers for that matter, overboard and take 30 minutes for you to regroup, unwind, relax, focus, or veg out?

Well, now you can in the ‘‘Time Out” session the Semper Fit Health Promotion department offers every Monday and Wednesday afternoon from noon to 12:30 p.m. in the Health Promotion classroom. Come as you are but leave the cell phones, palm pilots, blackberries and strawberries outside the Time Out room. Come with only relaxation in mind. You will not be asked to do or say anything, just be quietly present. You will be able to listen to relaxation music or your choice of music via your own personal headset with the focus on relaxation.

The purpose of this Time Out is to offer you a place to relax that may help lower your blood pressure, relieve tension headaches and backaches by relieving stress. You may dose off for 30 minutes, which will reenergize you and make you more productive throughout the rest of the day. Researchers have found that a mini relaxation or meditation period in the middle of the day helps to rejuvenate us enough to make us 50 percent more productive post rest. Wow, that’s healthier than three 10 minute smoke breaks during a workday.

So come on over to the Barber Physical Fitness Center at 2073 Barnett Ave. Monday and Wednesday at noon for your very own personal Time Out.
